I acknowledge that Identity is a complex subject, with multiple layers. Therefore, it would be simplistic for me to look at identity from a single viewpoint. Whenever the topic of identity arises, what comes to the mind of many is race. Well, because that’s the immediate manifestation of identity, then sexuality, religion leanings. How do we peel these layers of complexity to get at the core of the human person without watering down the subject? For me, of the importance is to be sensitive to these complexities, down to what is invincible. The Human DNA. A code that is found within our nucleus, so small yet full of bio data that traces us back to our first ancestors. The Homo Sapiens in the grasslands of the Rift valley in East Africa. Empowerment is defined as the authority or power given to someone to do things. It can also go further and defined as the process of becoming stronger and more confident, especially in controlling one’s life and claiming one’s rights.

My work responds to the idea of Empowerment and Identity by first interrogating the combination of the two. One that tries to look deep into the Human Person, and the other that strives to change the Human Person. An empowered Human Person is given the tools for social mobility, breaking both natural and manmade barriers that would have hindered their growth. Therefore, looking at my work, one is invited to take a closer look at the complex, volume geometry in front of their eyes. To be drawn deeper into the effect of light on the cut objects. The layering of color creates an infinite spiral that takes you onto the journey of unknown.
